Student Test Scores Shine

BHCS Students Excel in State Tests
Posted on 11/14/2022
Students in grades 3 -11 at Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools scored substantially higher than students in the state of Iowa on Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP).

BHCS students tested last spring at the same time of public schools. Students were scored as advanced, proficient and not yet proficient in the tests. Parents are receiving a report for their student at semester.

Links below show the reports in more detail for each grade tested.

The significant test results show an “apple-to-apple” comparison with other schools, and are significant for BHCS parents who invest in their child’s education, according to Dr. John Flanery, BHCS president.

"National news reports have shown that test scores across the U.S. have declined by 5 to 7 percentage points in the critical subjects of math and reading," Flanery said. "At BHCS, coming out of the covid pandemic, our systemwide scores have remained strong and consistently higher than state and national averages.

"This is excellent for our children and the outstanding teachers in our schools," Flanery said.

"These test results confirm that we offer an outstanding education in our faith-based curriculum to our diverse body of students.”

Iowa Code requires all public and private school districts report assessment results for all students. The ISASP aligns to more challenging academic standards and more accurately measures progress than previous state tests.
