Join us in welcoming Ben Mohning as the new Dean of Students at Bishop Heelan High School.

As Heelan dean he will oversee student discipline and attendance and serve as an assistant principal in helping Principal Chris Bork with daily operations of Heelan.

“I’m looking forward to working with the students, parents and faculty to continue developing the programs that make Heelan such a great school and family,” the new dean says.

Mohning previously served as education director at Boys and Girls Home and Family Services where he implemented positive support programming, updated curriculum, created uniform procedures for new students and developed academic and behavioral intervention plans.

As a former lead teacher at the Boys and Girls Home he also introduced technology to the classrooms, created teacher and student handbooks and taught 6-12 grade students.

Mohning earned a BA in history and a teaching endorsement at South Dakota State University, a masters’ degree in history at the University of South Dakota and a school administration endorsement at Wayne State College.

He has also received additional training in the areas of special education, mental health support and trauma awareness.

“We're opening the school year with a great team to welcome our students,” says Heelan Principal Chris Bork.

Mohning and his wife, Patti, reside in Sioux City
