Larson is New Heelan Band Director

New Band Leader Brings Experience

Jeana Larson, the new band director of Bishop Heelan High School, comes to Heelan with a host of experience in Iowa schools and music.

Larson previously served as Instrumental Music Instructor of Sheldon Middle School, Sheldon Iowa for 11 years working with the school’s concert, marching and jazz bands.

She also has taught junior high instrumental music at North Kossuth Junior/Senior High School in Swea City, Iowa; Twin Cedars Junior/Senior High School in Bussey, Iowa and in the 
Akron Westfield Community School District.

During her career she has participated in or helped lead a host of clinics, workshops, symposiums and seminars on conducting, arranging and marching band techniques. She attended the Band Director Institute at the University of South Dakota for several years.

Larson continues to serve as an instructor in the band camp of Wartburg College, her alma mater.

Active in many music and education associations, Heelan’s new band director most recently served as President the Iowa Bandmasters Association. 

She earned her bachelor’s degree in music education from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa and a master’s degree in music education from the University of Iowa. Her major instrument is the saxophone.
