Fr. Victor Ramaeker, a giant in the history of Bishop Heelan High School, died March 30. He was 85 and living in Algona, Iowa. Serving after the legendary Fr. Elbert, Fr. Ramaeker came to Heelan in fall 1976 to serve as Principal and dedicated his life to leading Heelan until spring of 1990.

He was known for expanding the Heelan campus with the north lawn, his commitment to his teachers, having a furry buddy with him, starting the Crusader Connection, forging alumni connections and singing to parents of graduates after the Baccalaureate Mass every year. He touched the lives of over 3,500 students.

Despite the challenges and hectic pace of overseeing Heelan, Fr. Ramaeker went on to lead a long and purposeful life serving others in Iowa parishes.
