The Bishop Heelan High School football team clinched a spot in the Class 3A state semifinals with a 27-26, triple-overtime victory over Sioux Center on Friday at Open Space Park.
The Crusaders trailed late in the fourth quarter, until quarterback Quinn Olson found fellow senior George Tsiobanos on a deep fourth-down play. After the PAT, the Crusaders tied the game at 7-7.
After a back-and-forth battle through all three overtimes, the Crusaders' defense made a fourth-and-goal stop in overtime No. 3 to clinch the victory.
The win clinched a spot for the Crusaders in the Class 3A semifinals, which are played at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. It's the first time since 2014, and the 17th time the Crusaders will play in a semifinal.
The Crusaders will face Creston in that semifinal on 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11.
