Celebrating Catholic Schools Week 2021

Catholic Schools Week starts Jan 31

From food drives to pancakes, thank you messages to gifts, and a Hollywood dress-up day to volleyball games – it will all happen Jan. 31 - Feb. 5 for Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools as part of annual National Catholic Schools Week.

Activities will focus on students, faith, community service, celebrating family and yes, there are zoom meetings, too. Plans have been scaled back for public health safety. Here is a sample of activities.

Monday, Feb. 1: Focus on Students
• At Heelan: Food drive for Siouxland Food Bank in a homeroom competition
• At Sacred Heart: Pancakes and Pajama Day

Tuesday, Feb. 2: Focus on Faith
• At Heelan: 500 Heelan students and teachers will gather in the fieldhouse for an All-School Mass  
• At Sacred Heart and Heelan: Gift baskets will be assembled for priests

Wednesday, Feb. 3: Focus on Community 
• At Mater Dei Nativity: “Duo Day”-Get your friends together and dress like a famous duo or trio-The Three Stooges, Tom and Jerry, Sonny and Cher, Han Solo and Chewie
• At Heelan: Words of thanks for our nation in red, white and blue that will be fit together to form the United States flag in the Heelan Hill Duffy Hall Commons
• At Holy Cross: Make thank you cards for first responders, service members and others

Thursday Feb. 4: Focus on Family
• At Holy Cross: write thank you cards/letters for priests and seminarians.

Friday, Feb. 5: Celebrating Faculty and Staff 
• At Sacred Heart: Indoor Family Picnic 
• At Holy Cross: Teachers vs students quiz bowl
• At Mater Dei Nativity and Holy Cross: Middle school volleyball tournament
