Addition Enhances Student Life

Heelan Unveils Friendship Terrace
Posted on 04/26/2021
Heelan has created “Friendship Terrace” with tables and benches outside of the school’s front doors to promote student gatherings and offer seniors an outdoor place for lunch in warm weather.

The terrace, named by a silent donor, will be dedicated to Patty Betz Thompson, a 1982 Heelan grad who died in 2013 at age 48 after a courageous battle with cancer.

A plaque that pays tribute to Thompson reads, “Her vivacious personality and exuberant nature left a lasting impression on everyone who met her. If you were lucky enough to have known her, remembering her gifts brings a smile to your face. If you were lucky enough to have been her friend, remembering her smile fills your heart with joy.”

Thompson was active at St. Michael Catholic Church and owned Thompson Interior Design. She and her husband, Bob, had 2 children who are Heelan graduates, Nicole and Alex. Nicole’s two children attend Holy Cross School.

A large patio area, Crusader Courtyard, is being created adjacent to the terrace. Concrete has been poured and railings will be added.
