Heelan advanced art students will paint an outdoor masterpiece that will be viewed by thousands of cars every month.
They are painting a “Welcome to Sioux City” mural at Wesley Parkway and 3rd St. on Tuesday, Oct. 2 from 8:30 a.m. till they finish.
Some 15 students will paint the words “Welcome” and images inside the outlined words “Sioux City” along with mascots of the four city high schools.
The public art was requested by Leadership Sioux City which helped decide the design. The Heelan students are guided by art teacher Laurie Dougherty, a veteran of mural works.
Dougherty says the students are excited about the project and should complete it in a day.
