At Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools we focus on academic effort, faith, activities, discipline, and service to others in a family-focused nurturing environment. We are blessed with dedicated faculty members and committed parents who support their children's success in and outside the classroom.

Elementary Schools Enjoy Success
• Our test scores consistently rank high in reading, mathematics, and science.
• Nearly 1100 PK-8th students grow in their Catholic faith every year.
• Students in grades 5-8 join high school students every spring to assemble meals in our “Then Feed Just One” program for the poor in Honduras. We hit the milestone of 1 million meals after 8 years of this special initiative.
• Our preschools at Holy Cross School, Sacred Heart and Mater Dei schools nurture young children for a great start in kindergarten.
• A transitional kindergarten at Mater Dei School offers a bridge to kindergarten.

High School Progress
• Students are now learning in our beautiful new high school and our new gym is under construction for opening in Fall. 
• Our high school juniors scored 95% proficient or higher in reading, mathematics, and science on the Iowa Assessments.
Our ACT composite of 24 in 2018 is the highest in the area.

• Our 2018 graduating class includes 3 National Merit students.
• Heelan's Quiz Bowl Team was a state champion in 2018. 
• Heelan girls and boys teams are known for winning seasons and many qualify for state competition.
Our show choirs earn trophies every year and the Marching Band, Jazz Band and Concert Bands all have earned No. 1 ratings.

• Colleges offered our 2018 seniors $12.3 million in academic and athletic scholarships.
• Over 80% of our 2018 graduates were awarded scholarships for college.
We also offer some 50 merit scholarships to students to help ease tuition at Heelan in addition to Guadalupe awards for top Hispanic students.
