Kim has a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of South Dakota.

Kim spent 18 ½ years managing Apple Tree Pre-school in Morningside.  She spent a year working in the Sgt Bluff schools with down syndrome and autistic students.  She has also done long term subbing in K-5 music.

 Kim is married to Joe, who is employed at Dierking, Lockie & Associate PC.
