Kathy graduated from Bishop Heelan High School. She has a bachelor's degree in education and art from Briar Cliff College. Kathy also has a master's in curriculum and instruction from Wayne State College. 

Kathy taught pre-school, kindergarten and was an assistant director at a daycare before coming to BHCS. She has taught within BHCS for 20 years. 

Kathy is married to Robert. She is the mother to Kristopher, who attends Iowa State University and Kelsey, who attends Bishop Heelan. She is also the stepmother to Bobby, who attends St. Michael South Sioux City and Kane, who attends Bishop Heelan.

Kathy received the Bishop Lawrence D. Soens Excellence in Education Award from the Sioux City Diocese in 2003.
