Coach Interview

Bishop Heelan High School is pleased to announce that Roger Jansen will return as head football coach to Heelan in 2018.  Current head coach Jerry Steffen will return to his coaching position of defensive coordinator, a position he held for nearly 25 years. Steffen took over as Heelan’s head coach in 2015 when Jansen joined the Morningside College football coaching staff.

Jansen, a 1981 Heelan graduate, previously was head coach in 1997 and 2000 – 2014.  His career record at Bishop Heelan is 157-31, a .835 winning percentage.  Jansen coached two state championship teams in 2008 and 2013 and state runner-up teams in 2007, 2010, 2012 and 2014.

“I want to thank Jerry Steffen for his three years as head coach,” said Jason Pratt, director of activities. “His teams were successful and he will continue to be a great asset to our program and school as defensive coordinator. “We think our program will benefit from Roger’s three years under Morningside College Head Football Coach Steve Ryan. We are excited for our student athletes and the future of Bishop Heelan High School’s football program.”
