Our Schools Enjoy Catholic School Week Activities

To celebrate National Catholic Schools Week Jan. 28 - Feb. 4 students in Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools will volunteer at area non profits, adopt the Sioux City Warming Shelter, start a school-wide reading program, challenge teachers vs 8th graders in a Quiz Bowl, sing for senior citizens and pray with Bishop R. Walker Nickless in school Masses. Each school also will recognize teachers and staff work anniversaries. 

Here is en edited schedule.

Sunday Jan. 28 -- 12 noon to 2 p.m.
• Bishop Heelan High School Open House for all current school families

Monday, Jan. 29 -Celebrating Our Community
• Mater Dei students bring in donations to Adopt the Warming Shelter
• Sacred Heart School students will volunteer at 9- 10:30 a.m. at Ronald McDonald House, Mary Treglia Community House, American Red Cross, Mid Step Services, Opportunities Unlimited and 5 nursing homes
• Heelan students and faculty will volunteer at the Salvation Army in South Sioux City at 2:30 p.m.

Tuesday, Jan 30:  Celebrating Your Students
• Holy Cross students will do in-school community service projects
• Holy Cross students will visit Holy Spirit Nursing Home
• Heelan students will celebrate Mass with the Bishop R. Walker Nickless

Wednesday, Jan. 31:  Celebrating the Nation
• Students will wear red, white and blue.
• Heelan sophomores have a religious retreat day.

Thursday, Feb. 1: Celebrating Vocations
• Holy Cross students will celebrate Mass with Bishop Nickless at 8 a.m.
• Holy Cross Blessed Sacrament brainy 8th graders vs teachers in Quiz Bowl assembly at 1:30 p.m.
• Mater Dei Nativity School Gym Kick off “One School, One Book” all-school reading project 12:30 p.m.

Friday, Feb. 2:  Celebrating Faculty
• Annual teachers vs 8th graders Volleyball Games in all 3 schools
