The Iowa legislature passed a very crucial legislation, the School Tuition Organization Act (STO). This landmark legislation covers 25%-75% of the tuition costs of eligible working families who have one or more students in enrolled in K-12 next year. In response to new law the Diocese of Sioux City created the Msgr. Lafferty Tuition Foundation. The intent was to ensure that most restricted funds by law are used first for those with the greatest need, and then other tuition assistance funds, that do not have legal limits can be used to assist those middle income families with tuition needs. Families whose 2007 annual income is at or below the poverty level can receive tuition assistance dollars of up to 75% of each child's tuition, depending on funding levels and students qualifying. Families whose 2007 income is 3x's the poverty level can receive tuition assistance dollars totaling 25% of each child's tuition. Families in between can receive tuition assistance dollars totaling 50% of each child's tuition. BHCS has at least $215,000 allocated from this foundation. This money will be used for families with the greatest need. Families apply with the standard FAIR financial assistance form. Examples of the Mgsr.
