Nan Kiel        

Nan grew up in Southwest Iowa and graduated from Woodbine Community High School. She has a bachelor's degree in communication and social science from Mount Marty College in Yankton, SD. 

Nan chose education as a second career. Her background includes sales and three years as an Extension Agent. She also has done free lance writing for several smaller newspapers.

She returned to Buena Vista University to pick up the course work and field experience hours for her secondary education certification. She also has a few graduate hours in communication and numerous random hours that assist her in the classroom.

Prior to coming to Bishop Heelan in 2002 she worked, for four years, at Gehlen Catholic High School in LeMars, IA. She served as a substitute teacher usually on a long-term term basis for several school districts.

According to Nan her goal is to keep as “fresh” as possible as a teacher and “walk the talk” of being a life long learner. 

She has been married to the same wonderful man for 22 years and they are the proud parents of four children.
